Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

We were drowning in debt and unable to meet pur payments each month, so we were borrowing off Peter to pay Paul, so the saying goes and getting deeper in debt just to manage the minimum payments. We then heard about Step Change, and wow what a lifeline they have been. They worked out a manageable payment plan to each of our debts and now we are much happier and living again without the constant stress and worry. Fantastic service

When I first contacted Stepchange it was very hard to do as you just feel shame for being in the position your in at the time. Everyone I have spoken to have been friendly and understanding they talk to to you with empathy. Such a great service I now have no stress dealing with my creditors. Reviewed on: 28th May 2026
