Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Being in debt that you can't cope with is scary

Being in debt that you can't cope with is scary, while acting like an ostrich is default behavior for a lot of us, it doesn't work. The prospect of creditors turning you upside down to shake change out of you can be all consuming and can have a very real impact on your health. It sounds corny but Stepchange really made a difference for me in facing my problems and ultimately providing an easy to follow process to build a plan and deal with my money worries, no more letters or unwanted calls. Empathetic advisor from first contact.

Empathetic advisor from first contact. I was given sound advice and, although the process was still very difficult financially and had a real impact on our day to day lives, it was so much better than living with constant phone calls from debtors and such a relief that we had started a process that helped.
