Cannot recommend StepChange enough!

I was managing quite well until the pandemic and lockdown hit. Then suddenly we were locked down and could not earn the same money, but the bills kept coming and we relied heavily on credit to get us through it. After that, it was tough to mange but we were just about coping- until all of the interest rates, mortgages and utility bills shot through the roof; then it became very difficult, and i was paying everything but relying on credit again to get to next payday, it was a viscious circle. Breaking point came when i was in severe pain with a broken tooth, but couldnt afford to see a dentist despite working full time in a management position - I knew something had to change. I contacted StepChange for advice, and by the end of that week I'd filled in a budget sheet and they'd confirmed that a Debt Management Plan was a good solution for me, and that I'd be paying half of what just the minimum payments were at the time. This was put in place before I'd got into any arrears with my creditors, and they've managed the whole thing for me, it's been a real weight off! I have spoken to a few creditors since, and they really respect when you have a plan with StepChange, and are very accomodating. It's not an ideal situation to be in, but it definitely takes the pressure and worry off, and allows you to sleep at night while also paying off everything owed, which was really important to me. Life Changing

I was feeling extremely stressed, like I was drowning in my debt. StepChange has literally changed my life. The feelings of anxiety, stress and depression are no more. I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel and live each day without the worry hanging over my head. Reviewed on: 1st May 2024

A way out of debt

I didnt know where to turn as i had accrued 20000.00 pounds of debt. i wasnt very well paid and it had mounted up from just living costs i rarely went out didnt smoke i was so embarrassed but then i was told about Stepchange and plucked up tge courage to ring them . To my shame i even lied to them about how much debt i was in but i rang them back the next day and told them everything. They worked out a plan for me on what i could afford and the relief that there was a way out was immense. I have 4 more payments to make and i will finally be debt free. Over the years i have had to amend the plan you are reviewed every year so cost of living rises in food and utilitiy bills are accpunted for or even if you just find yourself struggling. Amazing and empowering support

I had got myself into an unmanageable situation with my credit cards and really needed some support. Not only to step change give me options but everyone I spoke to did it with so much compassion and reassurance. I never felt judged and they made the whole process so easy to engage with, from their online tools, live chat and even the communication I received throughout the whole process. There was always a friendly voice at the end of the phone if I ever was unsure and wanted to talk things through.
