Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Help with my overspending and debts

I had accumulated unsecured debts over the course of several years because I hadn't made a budget, and was consistently spending more than I earned. Although I had not yet fallen into arrears, my monthly repayments on various debts were taking a larger and larger percent of my monthly income. I approached StepChange for help. The first thing they did was help me make a budget, which helped me see where I was overspending. Then they put together a debt management plan, and approached my creditors to arrange a payment plan. Now my monthly payments are (just about) manageable, I am living within my earnings, and I have a target date for when I will be debt free. Reviewed on: 6th June 2025

Setting up my account with step change

I was very embarrassed when I first spoke to Step Change but I soon realised that there is a lot of people in the same predicament and was instantly put at ease and given a solution to solve my debt it was super easy to set up everything and do a payment plan without the worry of my debtors.
