Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

I've been ignoring my debt issues for decades, I've eventually engaged with Step Change, and although no one can make the debt issue disappear overnight, I now feel with there help I'm dealing my situation. Please don't suffer in silence

Please don't suffer in silence, or cry at night, me and my husband rang Step Change, the gentleman who spoke with me, did not judge, or make us feel stupid, instead he asked how much came into our household and how much our outgoings were each month, then he worked out an affordable Debt Management Plan of paying our debts off. I cried at the thought of being debt free. It took 3 years and 3 months, it was very hard going at times, but we stuck at it. Since leaving Step Change with everything paid off, we saved enough money for a new tumble dryer, what a great feeling to pay in cash. We also saved enough for a long weekend in Scarborough, wonderful. Step Change have helped us so much, with their kindness, helpfulness and empathy. This was the best experience ever. I was very worried about my debts.

I was very worried about my debts. I was in my late sixties. Step Change took over my creditors. Set up a plan and I felt such relief. I am now almost debt free. Really good experience. I had been in total despair about my finances and how I was going to pay for everything. I was in debt to a couple of credit card companies and couldn't pay the monthly minimum charges.I turned to Stepchange and they have managed my debt management plan and contacted the creditors who I owe and I am so much happier. Fantastic people to talk to.

I have been a client for a number of years but I owed a lot of money. If it wasn't for the help and advise I've received from them I don't think I'd be alive today.
