Best to go somewhere else. They take your money for years - no problem. Really obstructive when you are due to get it out. Lots of delaying tactics. Reviewed on: 21st December 2025

Review of the Aegon, Pension:

Technologically very poor and terrible service

1
I have wasted 5 hours over 2 days this week trying to find and change funds. The funds I wished to transfer to do not appear in the available funds list on the website, despite being being one of aegon own funds and are apparently available, just not online. Baillie Gifford balanced managed Blackrock 50 50 After a telephone call, aegon staff sent me the transfer form, which I can complete manually and either post it, fax it or use the digital customer enquiry service. I'm unable to reply to the email as its a no reply. 1) post takes days and funds change price during that time. 2) who, other than hospitals use a fax these days 3) the digital enquiry service does not work for fund switches, despite it being offered in the email with the pdf form that can't even be completed without the help of a tree to print it out. So, the service that I pay aegon for (£30,000 over the past 20 years in charges alone) is failing badly and aegon is not utilising technology to any customer benefit what so ever. I simply can't make a simple 2 minute transaction on line to transfer funds that don't appear in the available list. The methods suggested are time consuming and the digital enquiry, offered as an option doesn't work. Over the years aegon have earned a small fortune from my pension and the above is a massive kick in the teeth. Do they care about customers at all? It appears not. Shoddy, outdated service that belongs in the 19th century. I have subsequently emailed aegon to raise an official complaint. Having received no acknowledgement, I have today had to call them again to obtain confirmation that my complaint has actually been received. This they did, but said it would take them 5 working days to respond. I will vote with my feet and have already found a new provider who is already operating in the 21st century and where I don't have to waste endless hours for a simple transaction. My advice is to avoid this company. Reviewed on: 3rd August 2018

failure to transfer funds to another provider

abject incompetence from Aegon asking for British identification when I dont live in the uk writing by post for urgent approvals but sending everything else electronically rejected certified copies of my identification but when you ring to speak to them you have to pass 7 identification questions clowns and jokers Reviewed on: 12th July 2023

How to lose Money

1
Lost over 40% with a default lifestyle fund. Moved to a so called stability fund to stop the decline guess what its still losing money. Better off with premium bonds. Reviewed on: 10th July 2023

Losing so much money on little investment return and high fees.

1
Like everyone else on here, I'm getting very worried how badly my pension is performing. It would be better stuck in a bank account. I'm trying to move it elsewhere beefore l Lose any more money but just cannot get in touch with them. This is really quite scary. Reviewed on: 3rd July 2023

Won't pay my pension. Dreadful customer service.

1
Supposed to pay me my pension draw down on the 25th May. They didn't. Told me they would pay me on the 12th of June. They didn't. Spun a yarn that they had paid me. No money in my account. They won't give me a reference number of the payment transaction. These cowboys are running their payroll services every 3 or 4 months or so to save money. I'm guessing 2 months because the FCA is supposed to investigate after 8 weeks. So in the middle of a cost of living crisis and you need your pension, well you'll just have to "hold your nerve". Pension

1
Aegon sent me a letter to say the money from my pension would be paid in to my account the beginning of June, I’m still waiting and no-one can tell me why there is a delay. The complaints department don’t respond so I have referred this to the Financial Ombudsman - there is no way I would ever touch this company. I feel sorry for the people who work in customer service there because they don’t have answers to any of the queries. Appalling service - I don’t even want to give them 1 star to be honest Reviewed on: 21st June 2023

Useless!

1
I have tried contacting Aegon to just find out my Plan Number - impossible, without my Plan Number. I will try to write to them 9as you cannot email or phone them) but do not hold much hope. Worse experience I have had, noting I have 3 other pension providers! Reviewed on: 20th June 2023

I have been trying to have my pension in a lump sum from Aegon since last summer. I can never get through I n the phone, completed the relevant forms and sent them registered post and they still don't respond. Be very wary of this company, I wish I could get them done for theft. Aegon has been my pension provider for ten years and I've always found them to be helpful. They provide good products at fair rates and are great at keeping users informed and involved Reviewed on: 14th June 2023

Catastrophically bad performance

1
The value of my pension pot with Aegon has plummeted over 30% over the last 2 years. This is a catastrophically bad performance. Don’t touch them with a barge pole. Reviewed on: 12th June 2023

AVOID AT All COSTS!

1
Do not touch this company with a barge pole!!! Happy to take your money but woe be tied you try and get it back! Been trying to access a trust fund for over 18 months!!! Rudest customer service I have ever experienced in my life. I have been hung up on several occasions when just trying to access basic information about our own money. Still no further forward in releasing monies as I was from day one. I have never left a review in my entire life but this company has brought me to genuine tears of frustration. There are hundreds of other companies to wisely invest in so PLEASE do your self a favour and avoid Aegon like the plague!! Reviewed on: 9th June 2023
