Barclaycard don't want prompt payers

I have had a Barclaycard for a long time and had a credit limit of £9500. I thought I might as well increase it a bit to £10,000. Within a few weeks my credit limit had been reduced to £1,100. I have a good income and pay 40% income tax. We have no mortgage or loans and my Experian credit score is 999. Could not get any sense whatsoever from Barclays. I recently tried to increase it from £1,100 to £1,200 and they turned me down! I have to wait 6 months before I can apply to increase it again!! I have kept it on just for supermarket spending as they are still giving me 2% cashback on any supermarket spend. I don't think they want big spenders who always clear the balance in full each month. I applied for an American Express Nectar card and they immediately gave me a £12,000 limit. The Nectar points are worth 1%, handy if you use Argos or Sainsbury. Reviewed on: 14th November 2025

As a newbie to Barclaycard I can only say I am very impressed so far. I applied for this card and was pleasantly surprised to be accepted. But the icing on the cake for me was the credit limit given. I have to say it restored my faith in human nature. I felt valued. I am poor but I always pay my bills. I felt this was recognised by Barclays and for that I will be forever grateful. Thank you. 10/10 for ease, app and service.

I’ve been with Barclay card for sometime now. The platinum account has good cash back offers on, their app to manage the account is easy to use and covers everything! The app also outlines card account offers including balance transfers, money transfers and the option to transfer your existing Barclaycard to another type they offer, with no new application! I’ve never ever know a high street bank to have that service. The only occasion I’ve needed to call them was for a charge back and they couldn’t have been more helpful. Barclaycard slashed my creditcard limit from £5800 too £1300 in the first instance which was very close to what I had accumulated on the card, without notification. Then I received an email saying I was close to my credit limit. I checked my card on there app and discovered my credit limit had been reduced to £1300. The next thing I knew was that my car insurance payment hadn't gone through, so checked the Barclaycard app again only to find my credit limit had been reduced again, this time to £250. When I inquired as to what had caused this they couldn't answer me. My credit rating is and always has been very good. I have had a Barclaycard for 50 years, I have a platinum card now, and they are closing my account as I dont live in the UK anymore, Their customer care team, badly named, dont care and cant help me, so they have lost a good customer and I will be closing any accout that I have connected to Barclays immediately and advising anyone who asks about Barclaycard of my experience. Not a user friendly app

The app often freezes and is very clunky to use , it’s not user friendly at all. I often had issues with making a payment towards the card as transactions would freeze so, I had to call up customer services instead. The account does its job of a credit card fairly well and the fees are not horrendous but it’s just user friendly. Reviewed on: 5th April 2025

Good rates.

Good rates. Easy to check balances and statements, make payments. They have some good cash back offers. It is not very easy to change the type to card you have once offers have expired, I have had a credit card with them for a while and they don’t really offer much until you get a new card with someone else.
