I was tired of my bank for 27 years, no customer services whatsoever and visited the Belfast branch of Nationwide, less than 5 minutes away from my old bank, where their customers services are only by appointment. Staff at Nationwide was welcoming, friendly, professional, respectful and supportive. Took me I will say less than 10’ to open an account and on top I was rewarded with money and other benefits and opportunities to get more from my own money. I also feel safe with handling my account in the app and when I need to speak with a customer support on the phone, I always satisfied with what I need. Reviewed on: 24th March 2026

Make the switch to Nationwide

I switched to Nationwide for personal banking (FlexDirect) after being with Barclays since my student years - a very long time! So glad that I made the move. I received a £200 welcome for doing so (not my main reason for switching) and every year since I have received an annual Fairer Share bonus payment of £100 for being a customer. I find the Nationwide app and products so easy to navigate for banking online. If I have any questions, I can chat online with a real person - not a bot. I also applaud the fact that while all the high street branches are closing, Nationwide stays open. I wish I had made the switch sooner and would recommend Nationwide Bank to others. Unbeatable customer service

Easy to use banking via their app with excellent clear information. There are rarely any problems or issues but whenever there are, they are always really responsive and helpful. In addition I really appreciate that they have many branches where you can actually go and talk to a real human being, not an AI bot. On a side note, they are always very helpful and kind to my elderly mum, who struggles to understand online banking and prefers to do things the 'old fashioned' way.
