Ethical, and so Supportive !

I love saving with a building society that does specific, practical things for the environment, and for housing (both so badly needed). Ethical - no investments in bombs or fossil fuels! The people who work for it are lovely! When I ring up to ask questions, I always get patient, friendly help and clear answers. Sure, the interest rate offered is modest - but this is outweighed by the peace of mind Ecology Building Society offers its customers. Reviewed on: 10th November 2024

Easy to use website

Nice company, great ethos, better than expected treatment

The best bits of Ecology: * their mission is wholly ethical * they will freeze deposits, with good notice, to an above-average, above-inflation performing saving account rather than cut the rate Worst bits: * their lending rates might be a bit more competitive, but perhaps they are justified as add-on mortgages Reviewed on: 7th April 2021

Conscious Alternative for Banking

Great customer service when needed, good competitive interest rates and great to know my money is being used for good causes that benefit society and the planet. For anyone who wants to bank knowing where their money goes and the peace of mind knowing it's doing good, Ecology Building Society is a great option. Reviewed on: 7th April 2021

Sound service, great goals

During 20-21 tax year, my wife and I (both retired) wanted to put our savings into an institution that would clearly use them for a positive purpose. Ecology Building society stood out in terms of its clearly defined goals and positive promotional materials. We initially started Regular Savings accounts and found the process to be simple and efficient. One or two phone calls clarifying details were answered clearly and politely without a long call queue. With the start of the new tax year we are moving our ISAs across, which so far has also been straightforward. In view of the urgency of our climate and ecological crisis, the need for financial institutions that focus on human and environmental goals is pressing. The Ecology Building Society is showing that this is possible and that care for the environment does not have to be at the cost if economic success. We have been impressed by the Society's reported steady growth. At a personal level, though we could no doubt have gained marginally greater returns if we did not care how our money was being (ab)used, Ecology's interest rates still seem competitive. Green banking
