Unauthorised DD An unauthorised DD was set up without my knowledge. Luckily I was able to cancel it to a company I had previously paid. Reviewed on: 7th November 2022

Review of the HSBC, Bank Account Pay Monthly:

Plenty of good value extras

4
HSBC are generally as good as John Lewis in terms of customer service. The Pay Monthly deal gives access to preferential rates and also more recently enabled me to get a high interest return on a monthly saver where the bank put in £10 every month that I put in £25 which is excellent value. Packaged account mis-selling

2
I opened my first account about 10 years ago, the advisor gave me the talk about their 'advance account' and that this is the account for me (I started with saying all I need is a debit card and internet banking), nontheless I was given the advance account, because this is the only one that 'suits my needs', as this was my first ever account I didn't know anything about bank accounts, after about a year or two of me paying a monthly fee for the account with 'benefits' that I wasn't even using, I realized that non of my friends are charged for having a bank account, so I went into the branch and told them I don't want to pay for this, I had to tell the advisor several times as he continued to repeat the stuff about the amazing 'benefits' the account comes with, eventually the account was changed to a free account. I never even thought about this until last year, when I read up on packaged account misselling. I raised this with HSBC, they sent me an extremely detailed form to fill in and send back, which I did. A couple of weeks later I received a completely generic letter with points, non of which were relevant to my case, and statements like 'all of our advisors follow our process to the letter', suggesting that they never mis-sold a packaged account in the history of the company, all this in a tone suggesting I'm a liar and instead of raising this complaint I should have played with the toaster in the bathtub. I was stunned, I did not expect this kind of treatment from the bank I have been with for over a decade, so the next day I opened a savings account at my other bank and moved all of my money out of HSBC. Don't get me wrong they are an ok bank, the service is adequate, but if you have a problem, you are on your own, they don't care about you, they don't even want to hear about it. The Only Bank for Me

5
I joind The Midland Bank as it was then in Gloucester, when I got my first pay check in 1969 and I have been with the same Bank ever since. They have helped my Wife And I through out our Lives, marriage Childrens Bond and later other savings accounts, the Bank has helped us all the time with help and advice sometimes even impattial advice which has surprised me on more than one occasion. I am ver Gratefull to the Bank for all the help given to me and my family throughout our lives both whilst working for a company and when going self employed then had advice which was exceptional so I will be eternally gratefull for the help I had at that stage of my life but theyo have helped us through out our lives so I will stay with them through retirement as well and I would never think of changing as they have and still are being good towards me. Business accounts and with savings we have had help and good advice all through out lives and they even contact me when I make a paymentre they are concerned about so I am very Grateful towards them and will never change Bank as its the Only Bank for Me. An amazing lady working for HSBC

5
I don't know if I want to recommand HSBC to my friend and family but for an amazing lady who help me so so badly ,maybe! Her name is Parmendar Kaur and work on Harrow branch in London and I must tell everyone that lady is amazing! So focus in customer services,so polite and kind,so dedicated, help me when I was really desperate and keep me update all the time with details about my tranzaction. Other person who help me even if I don't know her is Jagjit Gill,an extraordinaire manager with an extraordinaire attention to people who chasing my account and offer me her help. If HSBC hired more people like this the HSBC world become much better! Reviewed on: 9th July 2016

terrible customer service, lots of extra charges

1
the customer service staff never actually listen to your issues, just read back from a script. they never admit the bank has made a mistake. we paid cash in at a branch, it took a week for it to be credited to our account in another branch, during which time we went into overdraft by less than £10. The bank charged us £30 for an unauthorised overdraft, even though we could prove we had paid money in. They moved our account to a monthly fee account without asking us. We are applying to get the fees refunded and will be moving to another bank. Reviewed on: 19th February 2016
