I walked into the Thatcham branch to open a new savings account. Three people all sat there who looked to be doing very little. I asked about opening an account and despite there being 3 people was told I had to make an appointment. However lo and behold one of them had a miraculous cancellation but was told it would take an hour. I had time. He didn’t look impressed. We went through options half heartedly and decided on account which took 25 minutes in total to sort out, not an hour as told. I put in £200 in cash. Since then, well over a week later I have still had no confirmation of my account or deposit via mail or email. Nothing at all has been received which I’m getting concerned about now. To say I was disappointed with the service is an understatement. They didn’t look interested at all. They weren’t rude or anything but their lack of interest was very disappointing. We only have 1 bank in thatcham now which was another reason for opening an account there. Reviewed on: 30th October 2024

I was pleased that I was able to open 2 new accounts...

I was pleased that I was able to open 2 new accounts without having to make an appointment, by filling in the application forms and bringing them back into Winchester (my nearest) branch, and that cheques were acceptable deposits. There was a minor panic caused in that the lady i/c told me that the cheques would clear in 5-6 days but in fact it was 2 or 3 days, so for 24 hours ( after using a cash machine) I wondered where my £20,000 had gone until I could get to my bank to check that it had come in and out of my account to yourselves much quicker than I was told. After very poor service from a well known large bank...

After very poor service from a well known large bank I called in to my local Newbury branch to discuss possibly transferring a savings account. The Manager and another member of staff were very helpful, were very knowledgeable and welcoming. Furthermore, unlike many of the larger organisations they have a physical branch local to me. The interest rates available for my savings were much better than where they had been placed so it was an easy decision to move my investment. Reviewed on: 28th October 2024
