The customer is always wrong

I tried to open the First Home Saver account, and definitely completed the correct form as I ticked a box agreeing to use the funds towards a first home. However when it was opened it was a different account (Limited Access Saver). I challenged this through the live chat (would have much preferred an email contact form) and eventually was told I must have made a mistake. When I reiterated that I had definitely filled in the right form, they eventually admitted that "there seems to be an issue with how the website redirects and some people have had limited access savers opened instead", so essentially I was correct and it was their error. This 'customer is always wrong' attitude really irritates me, and the chat wasted my time as they didn't do anything I couldn't do myself - I wanted the incorrect account converted but of course they just told me to close it and restart the glitchy process again, which so far I've lacked the motivation to do after such timewasting poor service. The app is usefull it can be a bit confusing though.

The app is usefull it can be a bit confusing though. The main issue with the saver is the frankly dreadful interest rate. It is easy to transfer to your santander current account and vice versa though. Reviewed on: 16th April 2026

Interest rate dropped substantially

Interest rate dropped substantially after the first year, so I'm closing my account. They clearly don't value loyalty. Reviewed on: 16th April 2026

Santander saver is the best

I really like my Santander saver and it has a 1.00% interest rate which is really nice. It’s always nice to have a bit of money saved up and then if I’m in deaperate need of money on a rainy day I can always transfer my money without having to worry about interest being lost. Santander not flashy but consistent

Santander have always paid interest to current accounts, ma not be the highest rate but always consistent in giving some interest. Also I Iike the Regular Saver which is easy to manage and can easily be swoped back to the current account if an instant top up is required. Reviewed on: 6th March 2025
