A simple and pleasurable experience

Great FREE debit card account for children

I was looking for a debit card for my children aged 10 and 12. I had not heard of Starling Bank until it came up on my internet search. I was put off some of the more well known brands due to their initial and ongoing fees. With no fees Starling seemed too good to be true! There was nothing to lose so I decided to open an account. It was not possible to have a children’s account without first opening a current account for myself. However there was no requirement to make it my main account so I opened an account for myself and deposited a small amount of money. Opening the account was done entirely online but was quick and easy whilst still feeling safe and secure. Once my new account had been verified (this took just a couple of hours) I was then able to set up Kite accounts for my children- again this was quick and easy with relevant security checks. The debit cards arrived a couple of days later, enclosed in a little notecard personally addressed to my children which was a nice touch for their first ever bank account! The account operates through an app on my phone and there is a simpler linked app that my children have on their phones. However the child app is not essential so don’t be put off if your children don’t have phones. We have been using the accounts and debit cards for about 6 weeks now and really can’t fault them. There are absolutely no hidden fees or catches, in fact the current account actually pays interest. I can throughly recommend Starling and am considering moving my main high street current account to them! Reviewed on: 12th April 2024

Great account for children to allow them independence and its easy for them to use. I like I can keep track on when and where my children use their cards and the fact I am able to set limits. Reviewed on: 12th April 2024
