Great that they get their own space, with a debit card for withdrawing cash and making payments online, but all visible by me, and with good controls. They get their own app, so they can check the balance at any time. The only real drawback is the lack of functionally like direct debits, for example for paying a mobile phone bill. Teaches kids lessons on the value of money!

I love the control you have over the account and how easy it is to set and adjust the controls, such as spending limits. I love that there are options to block spending online or using cash machines. My kids love feeling grown up using their own cards and I have found that it helps them to realise the value of money. Eg my 7 year old spent all her monthly allowance in one go and had a hard time waiting until the next month. She hasn't made that mistake since. When on shopping trips and the kids ask for something, I say they can have it if they use their own money - I've found they will often then decide it's not worth it! Reviewed on: 14th March 2024
