Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

I would highly recommend StepChange to anyone struggling with debt or financial worries. From the very beginning, they were understanding, professional, and completely non-judgemental. Getting into debt is one of the most stressful thing...

Getting into debt is one of the most stressful things you can go through, and for a long time I kept putting off doing anything about it because I didn't know where to start. Contacting StepChange was genuinely one of the best decisions I've made. From the first call they were straightforward and non-judgmental. They looked at everything, worked out what I could actually afford, and set up a plan that made sense for my situation. The biggest thing for me was that once the plan was in place, the pressure just lifted. No more worrying about which creditor to pay first or juggling what little I had — it was all handled. The payments are clear, consistent, and I always know exactly where I stand. I'd recommend StepChange to anyone who's struggling. Don't sit on it like I did — just make the call.
