Compassionate Financial crisis resolution

I have a life limited illness and was prescribed medication which like all drugs had certain side effects. In my case the medication, Neupro, is renown for causing people to gamble and indulge in excess expenditure. As a result I endured a pyschotic episode and was admitted to hospital when I received the correct medication for my condition. However I then had to deal with the substantial debt I had incurred and was advised by my bank manager to contact Stepchange. I can remember the morning when I first contacted Stepchange and had a 90 minute very tearful conversation with a. wonderful compassionate and very understanding professional .lady adviser. I had to admit for the terrible financial crisis I had found my self in and was given the right and help to sort out a debt management programme. Due to my exceptional situation, supported by medical evident nce 8 of my 11 creditors very kindly waived my debt and I am now paying an affordable sum to my other creditors. Simply, life changing.

The stress of debt, was taking its toll on me much more than I realised. Only after contacting StepChange and setting up a DMP, did the shame, depression, embarrassment, fear, denial and anxiety become apparent as they began to quickly leave me. An helping hand

I had my difficult times when, with my wife in hospital, I had to stop working to take care of her and my kids. To pay the accounts I started in a spiral of loans that becomes more and more difficult to pay, until I understood that I had to do something. Life changing moment

I contacted Step Change as I was in a financial mess. My health wasn’t good and I was only receiving statuary sick pay I was drowning in debt and my husband didn’t even know I had debt I couldn’t tell him either as he is a bit of a control freak and it wouldn’t have been good for myself. I thought the only way out of this was to end my own life I couldn’t see any way forward it was one of my debtors that told me of step change. I picked up the courage to call step change I was a nervous wreck on the phone I was crying and I was also very embarrassed about my stupidity in getting into debt in the first instance the wee girl on the phone was absolutely fantastic can’t even remember her name but what a credit to the company she handled my situation with ease and never once judged me. I felt I made a friend that day as I was definitely not in a good place or a good frame of mind I believe I am still alive today for that reason my husband still doesn’t know as I have a budget and I can make one realistic payment. I want to thank Step Change for saving my life and the reason I can write this review .
