Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Life Savers

Before I contacted Stepchange I was suicidal. I couldn't cope with my debt and could see no way out. Stepchange showed me that all was not lost and gave me the help and tools I needed to put my life back on track. They gave me control back in my life and steered me on a path to becoming debt free. They took all the weight from my shoulders and contacted my debtors with offers of payments and anytime I have a problem or need advice they are always there to support me. Life saver

Before StepChange helped I could not see a way forward. My husband and I were burying our head in the sand. Now we are in a much better place repaying all our debts and managing to live life and learning how to budget and stick to it. The staff have always been so understanding and none judgemental and very reassuring, and it's hard to ask for help. We are so glad we did and we are £15000 of paying £56000 debt! Peace of mind

I am no longer stressed or dreading the post or my phone ringing. I call to step change I was reassured staff was calm. I didn’t feel I was being judged or a failure. I was supposed to look at my finance and plan for the first time how to pay towards my debts without running up others including my household bills. Step change managed the contact with my debtors.
