Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

Less stress and more reassurance

I have a DMP arranged through Stepchange. It was a relief to make a single payment towards all my debts. The downside is it feels like it will be a long time before these are paid off and I still get letters from creditors which put me in to panic mode. Fantastic people.

Fantastic people. They only want to help. No judgement, no awkward questions. Just be 100% honest with them and they will be 100% honest with you. Five Star!

Following a very difficult period financially and personally for both myself and my wife, StepChange have been supportive, professional and non-judgemental throughout the entire process. From the first conversation, they took the time to properly understand our circumstances, explain the available options clearly and allow us the space to make informed decisions without pressure. What initially felt completely overwhelming became far more manageable once we had their guidance and support. Stepchange changed my life! I was sinking in debt and they came to the rescue. I'm on my third year now and it has completely changed my attitude to spending. As long as I live I will never borrow money again, no loans, no credit cards. The borrower is slave to the lender. Reviewed on: 27th May 2026
