I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Peace of Mind

I became unemployed after 47 years without any break in employment. I found myself with out a job at the age of 64 and still had two outstanding loans which I had not missed one payment on. Once I was on Universal Credit I was told about Step Change and how they may help, From my first phone call to now a year on they have been a real support and have managed to set up a DMP which has been a massive help not only to my creditors but my state of health. Struggling with debt is a major problem for many of us and the associated shame. After making the initial phone call to Stepchange they were very understanding and I felt a sense of relief.
