Empathetic, non judgemental

Everyone you talk to are so friendly they put you at ease straight away that no matter how big or small your debt is there’s ongoing support and a plan to help you through your crisis.. they immediately put you at ease like the weight of the world has been lifted. Helped get back my life

StepChange are like the reinforcements in a battle that’s being lost. They are a buffer zone between me & the sharks I mean creditors. They helped freeze interest charges , helped me work out a budget to stick to as well as a repayment plan. Without this I would have been drowned with interest charges. I owed £19,000 In 2012 which now is down to just £1.600 odd. I was raised the old school way which was to pay back what you owe. I’m almost there now not long to go & my credit score is at its max. Reassuring staff at the other end of the phone

Made me feel normal, like I wasn't a failure or a bad person for having debt. I had been juggling my finances for a number of years before a cancer diagnosis made things impossible. I couldn't believe how easy it was to get help and be put on a payment plan. I really wish I'd contacted them earlier. Light at the end of the tunnel

Being diagnosed with cancer and loosing your job are not the things you want to hear.. Macmillan put me in touch with Step change and I saw a reason to be positive, no more dreading the post or the phone calls ... I had step change at my back supporting me all the way fast forward a few years got a new job and am in remission from my breast cancer, still paying my debts but in a way that does not limit or scare me .... I didnt know where to go...

My last few years have spiralled out of control with my finances due to depression and anxiety, and I was absolutely desperate and ashamed of my debts. I found courage to contact stepchange and have not regretted it. I was met with kindness, empathy and understanding... something we all wish for in our times of need. I'm kept up to date with money paid, owed, and balances, and any concerns are addressed immediately without me feeling stressed or anxious. Thank you for helping me start to get my life back. Rescued me from a debt spiral

StepChange have been amazing for me. I got caught in a spiral of taking out a credit card, maxing it out, then taking out another one to pay off the previous one, both helped by unplanned absences from work and poor mental health. I was at my wit's end when I finally worked up the courage up get help. StepChange were brilliant. They took all the information on my income and outgoings and set up repayment plans with all my credit card companies. They didn't pressure me to scrimp by on nothing, but agreed a realistic budget with me. All I need to do now is make one affordable payment to them every month and they divvy it up between my debts. If I have a change to my income or outgoings I can amend my budget online, or if I need advice their staff are so friendly, helpful and respectful. They aren't judgemental or condescending - they're just clear and open about the various options and actually do the things they say they will, like follow up calls with an email. For anybody in debt who wants to get on top of it, I can't recommend StepChange highly enough. Reviewed on: 8th July 2020
