Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Helped me get debt free

Changed our lives forever

My husband and I can’t thank Stepchange enough. We owed £37k and had fallen into depression because we couldn’t see a way out. They were understanding and empathised with our situation - no judgment at all. Fast forward 3 and a half years and we are debt free with goals for the future. In need of help and they were there

Due to the Covid pandemic, my employer of 13 years gave me the choice of redundancy or minimum wage and a zero hour contract. The drop was too dramatic and as my career experience was in hospitality it didn’t seem viable to stay in the industry with all the restrictions. I changed career but have had to start form the first run of the ladder again. My debt was too much for me to afford due to the drop in salary.
