When I realised, that I couldn’t manage when my husband left, was a complete wake up call. I didn’t know where to begin. A friend recommended a DMP, I had know idea what one was. I was terrified of telling anyone my problems, as I was totally ashamed. I took the first step and contacted Stepchange, the person I spoke with was non judgemental, and helped me all the way. He came up with a plan I could afford, and I decided on areas that I could cut back on. I have nothing but praise for the staff, not once have they rushed me, or judged me. Helped me get debt free!

Struggling with my debt

Approached Step Change as I was struggling with my bills etc. I initially approached my creditors asking for help. They all advised to approach Step Change and it's been the best but if advise I've followed in the last 5 years. Everyone I've spoken to within the company have been very polite, helpful and friendly. They listened and then offered advise regarding my debts. They explained the options I had and then answered all my questions. Once I decided how I wanted to approach my debt they again clarified my options and made sure I had an understanding of everything. Any issues I've had during my plan they've been on hand to answer any further questions I had. Can't thank them enough as I approach the end of my plan. If struggling to pay your bills for whatever reason give them a call and they advise your best options. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026

Since I can remember I wouldn’t think twice about getting a credit card or opening a store card. I would buy things on a buy now pay later agreement thinking everything would be alright. I’ll pay for it ‘another time’. I honestly didn’t appreciate money & would take it for granted. I slowly got myself into a complete financial mess that I couldn’t get myself out of. My house phone would constantly ring, my mobile phone would ring at all hours & I was receiving letters from the people I owed money to on a daily basis. This was seriously affecting my mental health, to the point I thought about ‘other ways out’. Three years ago I decided to face the matter head on; instead of turning my back & hoping it would all disappear. I googled ‘help with debt UK’ - this is the moment I got in contact with StepChange and that weight I felt on my shoulders for years on end has been lifted ever since. Fast forward three years & I now have one payment left of my debt management plan with StepChange, meaning I will be debt free for the first time since high school. I rarely leave reviews for a company or anything really but I wanted to share my experience on here because is truly has been life changing. Thank you to the staff at StepChange for being there for me when I really needed you, your customer service was invaluable & I appreciate everything you’ve done for me over the past three years. Wish i found Stepchange Sooner

Honestly couldnt recommend this company enough, its made me stop worrying about can i afford to live to i can actually live and enjoy myself again, i dont have to worry about the hassle of money and worrying about people coming to my door demanding payments i couldnt fault this company enough Reviewed on: 6th May 2026

If I was a rich man

All the staff have been really friendly and positive. They have replied to my emails almost straight away. I am now able to have a life where as before I was working more hours than God sent and not even covering my bills. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026
