Step change at last a way out

Been in serious debt for 10 years , remortgaged twice , bailed in 25 percent of my pensions a few years ago.Could not see a way out , put more on credit cards month on month , finally got to the point that I could not meet the minimum payments . Step changed helped me so much , it's early days but I can now pay everything and actually afford the odd treat for the famlly. Best thing I have ever done is contact StepChange

Getting out of debt is really scary finally committing and owning up to how much you owe. You made the process really easy. I put the account number of the debts and the amounts from all the letters i had received. You then asked my spendature then finally a copy of my wage slip. That was it. The whole process and navigation of the website was easy and that was it. You took care of the rest and i pay an affordable direct debit every month and now it is something i don't have to worry about and haven't done for years. Reviewed on: 24th May 2025

I was completely overwhelmed.

I was completely overwhelmed. I was consistently using one credit card to pay the minimum payments on other credit cards. I dreading every piece of mail correspondence and ended up with lots of unopend mail hidden away, I was really panicking about the future. One phone call with the people step change completely changed my position with my finances, I went from spiralling downwards to treading water with my head up with a positive future of one day having no debt, they have helped me budget and are handling all of my creditors. I am just so pleased I made that initial call, yes, my credit rating is shot to pieces but I do not intend to get myself into any more debt anytime soon. Reviewed on: 24th May 2025

Lockdown crippled me financially, but

Lockdown crippled me financially. Lost my job and was denied ANY help from the government. I was fortunate enough to get out loans and credit cards (not knowing how long we’d be in lockdown for) and quickly maxed them out. By the time I’d gotten back into work I had amassed a HUGE amount of debt. I was trying to pay it off but getting absolutely nowhere. Not even sure how I came across or how I heard about Step Change but I bit the bullet and got in contact. Not even joking, it has been one of the most beneficial decisions I’ve ever made. The people I’ve spoken to and the help they’ve given me has been life changing and life saving. I can’t even put into words how grateful I am that these people are here and for the help they’ve given me. I was in the most darkest place mentally, I couldn’t afford to eat, I couldn’t afford to get to work. I couldn't sleep. I couldn’t see a way out, except through one route….i was at work when I called them. That day I spoke to them and when my payment plan was set up, I felt like a new person. I sat at work, tears in my eyes. Knowing that after everything, I was getting some help and everything would be okay…this company literally saved my life and for that I will be eternally grateful.
