The go-to place for Debt advice, based on my experiences. Don't leave things too late, as they can help you up-front—no need to be shy or embarrassed. You may be forwarded to them from Business Debtline or National Debtline. These are all excellent free services. The last thing you want to do is pay out even more. I could pay my debts, but the interest could suck up your resources. I had had enough of it. They helped me. Recommended! Reviewed on: 27th May 2026

If you're in debt they will help you get out of it

When I first contacted Step Change I was drowning in debt and every day was full of stress about money. They helped me go through my debts and come up with a realistic plan, and set me up with the breathing space scheme to get debtors off my back while everything was set up.
