Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Excellent Help

After many years of suffering debt from an ex partner, I found Step Change and what huge lift it was. Helped me, when i thought no one could.

I ran up debts of approx £61,000. At the time i could afford the repayments, but when i looked at a projection of these debts, when my special offers on Credit Card transfers, etc. expired, I was horrified at what my new outgoings per month would be. I had also become very ill and any additional income stopped too. As i saw what was about to happen, i contacted National Debtline, but due to the amount i owed, they would not help me. I thought i was heading for the courts, but then i found Stepchange and they completely turned my life around. We had a conversation to dicuss my income and outgoings and how much i could afford to pay my creditors. I set up a plan with them and after just 1 year, my debts were down to £56,000. They have also alowed me a couple of months at a reduced payment, as i had to carry out some household problems and get my car repaired after it was hit in a car park. They really are so helpful and understanding. Even during this Covid-19 crisis, they understood that i had to pay much more for my food, as it had to be delivered and asked me to revise my plan for a while, to allow for the additional costs. Very helpful,

Always a shoulder to lean on. Talk you through the budget, makes life easier and always have a peace of mind knowing that the debts are under control. All threatening letters stop coming through and the creditors receive the amount you can afford due to the step change instructions. Will always recommend them as they are free of charge. I had no idea someone like StepChange existed. And someone can help take the stress away when credit mounts and struggling to juggle. It is hard to admit you need help and Stepchange guide through everything and once a payment plan is in place you know where you are up to. Absolutely lifted the weight from my shoulders

I was knee deep in debt... I thought I could handle the monthly payments but my outgoings were piling up. In tears I went to Stepchange and within a phone call they completely lifted the heavy weight I was experiencing. I was feeling like such a failure but Stepchange never judged me. Only helped and reassured me things will improve with time. They’re truly there to help you. They set up a monthly plan for me and made sure I could afford to eat, rent, petrol for work etc...and they contacted my debtors. In just over a years time I’ll be debt free thanks to Stepchange. I 100% recommend you make the same call I made to them 5 years ago. I was really struggling hard, in tears all the time but Stepchange helped greatly. I still took responsibility for my debts and paying back every penny but with Stepchange it’s done stress free. So you can live every day without anxious worrying.
