Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Worry Free

Since i contacted Step Change in May 2019 my life changed. I was constantly dreading knocks on my door or post delivered. Glad i took the plunge and got in touch with thhem. The advisor took his time going through my debts. In the end a plan was sorted out for me and now with just one monthly payment my debts are all going down. Life savers

Just ringing them, sorting through my debts and coming up with many solutions to help and picking the right one for me was a massive weight from my shoulders! I can’t thank them enough. Life Changing

Step Change have changed my life in a way nobody else could. After spending three years in denial, having my debts build up because I was ignoring all letters and phone calls I eventually couldn’t run anymore and one of my creditors froze my account for two months and told me to contact Step Change. Even then, I contacted Step Change at the very end of the two months. I was afraid, embarrassed, worried at what they would say. When I called they were so understanding, reassuring in a way I can’t even put into words. They helped me set up a debt repayment plan, they took control and said I could repay all my creditors and be debt free in just over one year. And all of a sudden my chest didn’t feel so heavy, this huge weight had gone and I could breath again. I didn’t realise how much worrying about my debt and hiding it from friends and family was eating me up inside. The people I spoke to were amazing, so compassionate and made me feel like it was all going to be ok. I can’t believe this amazing service is free. I had never heard of Step Change before, I think a lot of people will be the same. I guess it’s not the sort charity you want to be familiar with. But they have been there for me when nobody else has been. Step Change deserve this award and so much more. People won’t be aware of them, but they are always there to catch you when you fall. Helpful and positive
