Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

When I was at my lowest with worry and anxiousness, I turned first to Citizens Advice who were very helpful and passed me over to Stepchange. From the very first phone call to them, I felt a lot better and they got me into a positive frame of mind. With a lot of determination, year by year, I have managed to reduce my debt and expect to clear everything by the Autumn. Reviewed on: 13th May 2026

I was in a state of panic when I phoned for help. I didn't know what to expect or how things were going to go forward. When they answered and assisted me through the process, it was like they lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. I could actually breath again. StepChange helped me in a crisis.

Supporting an adult child on the autism spectrum who ran up terrifying debts impacted on my own finances. I used my own credit cards and bank loans to clear their debts, then my mortgage shot up during the Liz Truss premiership. StepChange set up payments with my with creditors, and it is a huge weight off my mind. Reviewed on: 13th May 2026

Peace of mind

Initial debt was immediately reconfigured into a manageable payment plan. Contact with StepChange was efficient and easy, giving excellent advice and adjusting payment plans as required.
