They were there to guide, direct, and support me.

I didn't know where to turn because of the situation my husband had gotten us into. Talking to the customer services department put me at ease. There was no judgment, and although I was crying, the person was very patient with me. They made me feel I could breathe again and that it would all be sorted. I can't thank StepChange enough. I pay my debt via them. They did everything with me, from identifying my debtors to contacting them to make a proposal. I complete a budget every year to make sure I can afford what I am paying. The cost of what I pay incorporates normal daily living expenses, so I feel I can survive and still have a life whilst paying the companies I owe. Reviewed on: 8th May 2026

Get the help - it's life changing

I was in over my head with debt before I spoke with StepChange. My circumstances had changed and I found myself a single parent. I believed I needed to pay off the money I had spent (I didn't want to be "bailed out") but I had got myself in such a bad position that I was only paying interest, couldn't afford to live, and couldn't see myself getting through it. I only wish I'd asked for help sooner so the interest hadn't piled up so high. I'm paying into a DMP and it's satisfying to know I eventually will have paid off every penny I owe. At my wits end!I
