Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

Got my life back on track

If step change didn't help me I would still be struggling I was finding life really hard paying so much out each month to my debts and I went with step change it was easy to apply and get sorted and I had a weight of my shoulders and I cud finally get my life back on track and I am nearly debt free thanks to stepchange for helping me. Pick up the phone and call stepchange

Was in a bit of a panic until I spoke to a stepchange debt advisor. Got a budget sorted out and got in touch with my creditors..This had immediate effect of my letterbox not being letter bombed anymore.Not sure if creditors realise this but the more letters they send,make countless phone calls to you the less it makes you inclined to get debts sorted out.So a big thank you to all the staff at stepchange. Brilliant. Talk to Step Change Today.

After months struggling with spiralling debts I could never get a handle on, I faced reality and contacted Step Change. It wasn't easy, but they were straightforward, practical and non-judgemental. They guided me through Breathing Space, which gave me the time I needed to provide all the details required to set up a repayment plan I really could afford; and for the first time in a very long time, I was able to sleep and live without constant worry. Step Change helped me work out what I could afford to pay - leaving enough to still enjoy life a little and keep the car- then calculated a repayment plan which they presented to my creditors. From that point on, I simply continued to make payments to Step Change and they dealt with the debts. It's a difficult decision, but might be the best one you make. Two and a half years on, I've only four more payments to go and I'll be debt free, having cleared nearly £30k. I can't recommend Step Change highly enough. Reviewed on: 7th May 2026
