Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

I was absolutely desperate when I went to StepChange...

I was absolutely desperate when I went to StepChange for help. Following my husband's death, I could no longer manages debts that we had in my name only, and I thought I was going to lose my home. They helped me to work out a realistic budget, which meant I did not have to go without and could cover all household bills, food shopping, etc, before making payment to my creditors. From suicidal to having hope

When I first contacted StepChange I was feeling suicidal. I couldn’t see a way out of my situation. They turned it around completely. The people I spoke with were so helpful and supportive and totally non-judgmental. They then provided a solution go my problem which meant I could begin to pay my debt and breathe more easily.
