Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

This is your chance at a lifeline; don’t underestimate the impact of your first call to Stepchange. There is no judgment, just listening and understanding. And… a way forward. When my husband lost his business he hid the legacy debt from me, until it was almost too late. A friend recommended Stepchange so we sat together and called. The call handlers are empathic and calm. They made us see the road ahead and what we needed to do. They took a huge weight from us and contacted companies for us (where possible). I’m honestly not sure how we would have sorted things without them. Spiraling debt can happen to anyone - don’t feel bad and don’t let it destroy you. My financial life looked brighter!

The day I spoke to Step Change, was the day my financial life started to look brighter! Was paying off debts with credit cards and not making a dent in my payments as interest rates were high. After the 1st call to step change, we made a budget with no judgement and 6 years later, DEBT FREE! Could not have done that without them. A great help with releasing the burden of debt

Step Change have helped me to sort out my finances so I actually have money to live on. My debts were so high and such a burden, they prevented me from doing the simple things in life with my family.
