Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

When I first spoke to StepChange, I was stuck in a terrible cycle of increasing debt and high-interest, short-term loans. This was severely damaging my mental wellbeing and I couldn't see a way forward. Through their expert and non-judgemental support, StepChange have enabled me to completely transform not only my financial situation, but how I feel each day. I no longer dread waking up, and feelings of shame and hopelessness no longer dictate my mood. I am making inroads into my debt every month in an affordable way. My time with stepchange from the first time that i s...

My time with stepchange from the first time that i spoke to one of the assistance, gave me back my life. It may be possible that some may say that the debt. i had was relatively small, but to me it was like the national debt. But the time spent talking to the, assistant and being made to feel that i was not alone. Everything was explained to me very clearly, and i was given a number of options how to bring my debt under control. The fact that i did not have to speak directly to the people i was in debt to, helped to make me relax, and deal with my life. I have always been sorry for being in debt, and it is not something i take lightly or any pride in, but without stepchange my life would have been a different story. I hope once my debt is cleared, the only debt i will have, will be a debt of gratitude to stepchange. Which i may never be able to repay. Life saving

I’d got myself into a real downward spiral with the state of my finances. I spoke to a couple of people at StepChange initially and they were so lovely and helpful. There was no judgement at all.
