Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

I had some debt and wasn’t sure what to do.

I had some debt and wasn’t sure what to do. Step change offered advice and calculated a payment plan, I haven’t had to think about my debt I just make the monthly payments. Reviewed on: 27th May 2026

Easy to talk to advisors regarding debt.

I find it easy to talk to advisors regarding my debt. I feel like they understand my situation and I feel no judgement from them. They really do care and provide as much help as they can. It was difficult for me to talk about my debt to anyone else, but StepChange allowed me to be open about it. Reviewed on: 27th May 2026

I cannot thank Step Change enough fir the help thry gave me with the diifficulties i was ezperiencing. There appriach was very friendly they covered every aspect of expenditure and took control thereafter. Any concerns i had was addressed imediately putting mr at ease.
