These guys are an absolute joke.

These guys are an absolute joke. Took up a policy with them and they did nothing apart from mess around from the start. Now cancelled the policy and taken out another with the RAC which was issued immediately and with no phone calls or silly emails trying to increase the price. Even when asking to be put through to their complaints department they cut you off! As i questioned, if they are this incompetent at the start of a policy, what on earth are they like in the even of a claim? They have now been reported to the obbedsman for a full refund of all costs. Avoid Swinton, it's really not worth the hassle. Reviewed on: 21st June 2024

Even 1 is too high a score! I went to Swindon through confused.com, filled all the details out on Confused.com but by the time I went through to Swinton the information was different but I wrongly assumed it was the same. When I spoke to them the next day and told them I would not be taking out the insurance with them, they kept £40 of the deposit I had paid advising it’s in their T&Cs! Advise: Go through an insurance company direct like Admiral not a broker like Swinton Avoid at all cost as the way they run their business is underhand! Reviewed on: 21st May 2025

Con Artists - avoid at all costs!

I cancelled my policy within a couple of hours after being told I was going to be charged an extra £200 for cover and was charged a £45 'service fee' from broker Atlanta. They said it was in the T&C's and it was not and is not in your policy sent to me after purchase. They could not locate the 'service fee' premium themselves. Will be complaining to the Ombudsman today and raising a chargeback. At no time throughout whilst on the website was I asked about non accident related claims nor was made aware at the point of purchase that cancelling my policy within 2 hours of the 14 day cool off period would result in losing £45 of my deposit. There is nothing to indicate a retention fee for cancelling during this period - I simply would not have purchased with Swinton Your Customer Service advisor Tanby could not locate the T%C's that stated this especially at point of purchase and could not send me proof of this. She also told me that she had forwarded on a complaint on my behalf for which I would receive an email acknowledgement - clearly this has also not happened. Reviewed on: 17th March 2025

Insurance increased by 300%

I recently had my insurance premium increased from £38 per month to £108 per month. This is without any claims for over 7 years, I have logged a complaint with the company but they have come back to me with the response below · The overall UK insurance market has seen a rise in the number of claims, and it costs a lot more to resolve them, due to materials, parts and labour being more expensive.; · Some insurers have left the UK home insurance market meaning there is higher than usual demand. These and other factors are having an impact on insurance prices even if you haven’t personally made a claim. I have cancelled my insurance and have found a quote for less than £38 and with better cover. Great customer service Swinton!!!!! Reviewed on: 14th February 2025

Making a claim

If I could give them ZERO I would

I have used Swinton on and off for the past 25 years so was happy to take car insurance with them in November 2023. In July 2024 we moved house and as you do started notifying change of address. So I dutifully did with Swinton. That's when the nightmare began. Spoke to Toby and explained I needed to change the address only on my motor policy. So he asked all the relevant questions and said he needed to submit it to the underwriters to see if there would be a increase in the premium. He came back and mumbled something about a rejection code as the area was unacceptable. I asked him what he meant by that and he couldn't answer. Now the area I moved to has high end value houses in a semi rural location, certainly not a crime hotspot! He put me on to Lindi who just kept stating the area was unacceptable but I can cancel this policy and they would put me with a new company. Why, I asked? Please tell me why this area is unacceptable? She just kept saying the insurance company stated it was not an acceptable area. I asked her to verify who the insurance company was. AGEAS came the reply. I was stunned. We have a second car, insured by my wife, and she successfully changed the address the day before with no additional premium. It is insured through AGEAS!! Her reply was genuinely incoherent by which time my wife had entered the room curious why I was on the phone so long and started listening to the what was happening. I asked to speak to a supervisor for an explanation. I got Karen. I explained what had happened and wanted an explanation why two people living at the same address received such polar opposite responses. Again she appeared not to understand and stuck to the script of it being an unacceptable area. I recall saying regardless that my wife lives in the same house and that AGEAS accepted she is in an acceptable area (no additional premium) but Swinton say it's not. All she did was keep offering me a new policy with a different company or a cancellation of the policy. I asked for quotes for a new policy with a different insurance company, however her eventual reply was that none would insure me. As my wife was simultaneously obtaining quotations from a comparison website this was obviously another blatant lie. I believe this is the procedure when a customer won't change to another company to build Swinton's revenue stream. They get booted. Needless to say the policy with Swinton is now cancelled. I urge everyone to avoid this company at all costs. I dread to think what may have happened if I had ever had to make a claim through Swinton. Reviewed on: 5th July 2024

Had a bump in my car. Swinton is useless

Had a bump in my car. Rang swinton got a claim number that was it. Two weeks later after many frustrating phone calls have given up . Any one must be mad to use this firm. I put in a complaint it was sent onto my insurer who said I had not put in a claim. And to start process again. No way do I ever want anything to do with this firm. Am of an age where the whole problem was making me ill . If u r looking for insurance DONT look at this firm Reviewed on: 15th May 2024

I had absolutely unpleasent expierience with Swinton...

I had absolutely unpleasent expierience with Swinton Insurance today.Phoned them to update my home adress and expected premium go down since we moved into far better neighbourhood and keep our car on drivway rather then street.Insted I was advised that my premium will go up by £300 per year!Agent was unable to explain why,her guess was the postcode?!Decided to cancel my policy for exit fee of £50,went online and insured my car for £20 less per month on the very same "expensive" post code.My advice,do your research and choose wisely.I would not recommend Swinton Insurace.
