Value for money travel insurance

As a frequent traveller who travels for more than 60 days at a time I have found World First to be the best value for money insurance I could find for my needs. As yet, thankfully, I've never had to claim, and I'm hoping I never have to. Reviewed on: 3rd August 2019

Easy choice

I was looking for an annual policy that wouldn't automatically up my premium when I declared my lower back problem that had just recently been diagnosed, Osteoarthritis. I had enough to contend with on receiving that diagnosis, so didn't need the worry of my annual travel insurance going up because of it. I am on a state pension, and don't receive any other benefits, but I have to travel twice a year to visit my son and family who live abroad. Money Expert had recommended World First in their weekly newsletter, as being a company that looks at health problems realistically, so I checked it out online, and found that the questions were easy to understand and answer, so I phoned them and spoke to an adviser, got a sensible quote and accepted. World Firsts premium was far less than the previous years renewal quote ( from a well known company) that had increased to nearly double the cost, without me even telling them about my diagnosis! World First, First Class

Previous medical conditions (breast and bowel cancer) from many years ago together with AF and hypertension has meant that most insurance companies (and I've had quotes from a substantial number) have either required very high insurance premiums (despite advertising themselves as specialist insurers for those with medical history) or have refused to include in the cover. I've used World First now for several years, paying far less than other insurers charge, and with very affordable premiums despite my advancing age. Superb for older travellers with medical issues

My wife and I were originally insured by their sister company and whilst having had what we thought was an excessive increase for renewal went through a review of medical history which led to a renewal being declined. However their representative offered us the opportunity of using World First, advising that much more detailed medical history would be required. We were happy to do this and ended up with a lesser premium than had been originally quoted. We have since added a couple of extra declarations, one at minimal extra cost and the other with no additional fee. The representatives I have spoken to are friendly, thorough and efficient.
