Bicycle Accident

I had an accident with a bicycle pedal in May when holidaying in Spain. I thought that it would heal quickly and my July/August trip to Finland would not be affected. However, the wound did not heal well and I was still receiving daily treatment in the UK when my departure for Finland came around. I have an annual policy with Avanti and new that I would have to inform them of my situation in spite of making no claims on my travel policy (all my treatment in Spain was taken care of under my European Health Insurance Card - it won't be when Brexit takes place!). My GP confirmed that I was fit to travel to Finland although I would continue to require treatment for the wound (cleaning & dressing). The Avanti customer services representative contacted the insurance underwriters and confirmed that I could continue with the annual travel insurance without any increase in premium, although any claim relating to my Spanish bicycle accident would not be covered. I considered this to be fair. Again my European Health Insurance Card covered me for the treatment that I have been having in Finland (visiting local medical centre on alternate days), and the leg is finally getting better. Dealing with company painful and slow

I have used this company for a number of years but the proof of the pudding is whether or not they cover you and I claimed for the first time this year was disappointed this year to find that the excess is £150 per person not what I understood When I took out the policy. This information was buried in the small print. Making a claim took many many phone calls filling out complex form several times and then at the end of it it couldnt be submitted because they required a doctors certificate. If they told us the doctor certificate was required first off then We would’ve obtained this initially saving us having to repeat the process all again once we had the doctor’s certificate . Obtaining the insurance in the first place also takes a couple of hours to go through all of the forms. overall I’ll be looking for a different company next year Reviewed on: 18th September 2021

Got away with confidence

After so many lockdowns my sisters and I were desperate to go away . With so much uncertainty we needed good travel insurance cover and at a fair price. Avanti to the rescue! So we were able to take our cruise knowing that we were covered whatever happened. When Australia opens to visitors we’ll be straight back online to Avanti . Reviewed on: 18th September 2021
