Bicycle Accident

I had an accident with a bicycle pedal in May when holidaying in Spain. I thought that it would heal quickly and my July/August trip to Finland would not be affected. However, the wound did not heal well and I was still receiving daily treatment in the UK when my departure for Finland came around. I have an annual policy with Avanti and new that I would have to inform them of my situation in spite of making no claims on my travel policy (all my treatment in Spain was taken care of under my European Health Insurance Card - it won't be when Brexit takes place!). My GP confirmed that I was fit to travel to Finland although I would continue to require treatment for the wound (cleaning & dressing). The Avanti customer services representative contacted the insurance underwriters and confirmed that I could continue with the annual travel insurance without any increase in premium, although any claim relating to my Spanish bicycle accident would not be covered. I considered this to be fair. Again my European Health Insurance Card covered me for the treatment that I have been having in Finland (visiting local medical centre on alternate days), and the leg is finally getting better. They came to our help without making life further difficult when we desperately needed their help.

When taking ill in Cyprus at the beginning of last year, Avanti did their level best to help in anyway they could in bringing us home safe and sound. They were not helped by the TUI reps, who do not give them the information required about our passports on time, and lied about being able to stay in the hotel until the following morning, instead leaving us to come home in the middle of the night arriving in England in the freezing cold. Avanti also re-paid the ransom money demanded, and were simply wonderful to two very poorly, frightened elderly people, who will always be indebted to the company for their help. Their kindness was further extended even after we arrived home. We have taken out a new insurance policy, allowing us once again to look forward to a new holiday, knowing we have the very best insurance company in the world to rely on should, heaven forbid anything go wrong. Great cover at a fantastic price!
