This isn’t made clear before you book an appointment. Only after I had booked did the doctor tell me that they couldn’t help me because the service doesn’t cover patients in Europe. That was shocking, especially since my Level 4 plan is supposed to provide European coverage. Another issue is that. I had a Level 4 plan with two different companies, but the benefits were completely different. In my experience, Bupa is quick to take your money but very reluctant to provide actual treatment. Instead of helping, they often tell you to see your GP or go to the emergency ! even for something like the flu. That defeats the purpose of paying for private health insurance. They rejected a claim for physio on my back and neck area as they have stated that I had a shoulder injury in 2018 (as note in my GP’s questionnaire). I tried to explain that the current injury is very different but they stated that the shoulder and the back are connected so they declined it. I asked to speak to a manager but it takes 4 days for a manager to revert, and only if the Manager feel that they have case to answer. As an example, BUPA said that if you break your leg at aged 5 and have no problems until you are 60, when you break your leg again, then your claim will be denied as it is a pre-existing condition. I tried to explain that even in that example, it is not an existing "condition". They reiterated that it is pre-existing - Ridiculous response! Whilst they do have a lot of their own facilities and was seen by their GP in 48hrs it then went downhill. I was presented with a list of professional to choose from. sounds good eh? No! its really not. If the phone is answered, availability is to be worked out and that is not always straightforward. Tests arranged were sometime NHS facilities, manned by NHS staff on lunchbreak which i found bazar. Then if you have an excess get used to demand letters from all and sundry. All of this whilst worrying about a possible life changing diagnosis. I'm three and a half months into my fist call for help a few hundred pounds lighter, still not had the problem fully diagnosed and symptoms persisting. Throughout, no correspondence from Bupa to see how i am only notices of how much everything costs. Overall, very antiquated, not quick and certainly not caring.
