The Original Green Building Society

Long before it was 'trendy' to be green, the Ecology Building Society was working to encourage people to fund ethical projects. I've been with them for almost 40 years and they have consistently offered excellent service with a human face. You could always ring up and talk to a real person without waiting in a queue for an hour and they seem to go the extra mile to make sure that your queries have been satisfied. Support Climate Change action AND get a decent return!

Easy to set up an account. Moreover, in these hard and worrying times it feels good to have my savings in a safe place that not only gives a better return than a high street bank savings account, but which is committed to making a positive contribution to protecting our ecology. I feel confident and reassured to know that I am saving with an ethically sound organisation that shares my values and supports worthy projects which are moving us towards a greener future. A rare find

I’ve been with the bank many years now and have received meticulous service in every way. Their communications are clear and not overly regular. Even though they only have the one branch they outdo their larger counterparts with ease. All this AND their ethical standards are second to none. Reviewed on: 12th March 2022

The most ethical bank on the market

Ecology Building Society is rated the most ethical bank in the UK by the Move Your Money campaign. Savings are invested in mortgages for people building eco-friendly homes, so have a directly positive impact on the environment and the housing shortage. Their online banking feature is easy to use, their range of products and savings rates is competitive, and unlike other supposedly ethical banks like Triodos who often invest in polluting companies like petrol lobbyists Toyota, Ecology really do make a positive difference. Ethically sound and great to deal with

I've been an investor with the Ecology Building Society for longer than I can remember - probably 20 years by now. They've always been my go-to savings provider. Yes, the interest rates may not be the highest, but it's a tiny price to pay for knowing that your money is 100% ethically invested - no ifs, no buts. They're great to deal with, too. You always get straight through to a person (not like some providers who subject long-suffering customers to endless queues with stupid music - you know who you are!) and they're infallibly efficient and friendly.
