Review of the GoSkippy, Car insurance:

BEWARE - PLEASE READ

1
PLEASE READ — I had a collision in June this year (2018) and it was not my fault. I contacted GoSkippy/Eldon Insurance/Southern Rock and was finally told I would have to claim on my insurance while “investigations” were ongoing. I was not asked for my account of what happened, I was not asked to provide any evidence of the collision and how it happened - I was instead asked to pay the excess and claim on my insurance. I refused and complained about bot being asked to provide any evidence of my side of the story. Rather, “pay the excess and claim on your insurance”, was what I was told. My complaint was not upheld by GoSkippy, instead a sudden flurry of requests for information/evidence that should have been made in the first place now followed. A few weeks after filling in the forms and sending these back I got a call from a personal injury specialist from GoSkippy accusing me of being at fault. That’s right. My very own insurance company! GoSkippy!!! I calmly explained how the accident happened to her because it was evident she had not even read my case file. She said I should not have been waiting in the yellow box to turn right when the accident occurred. I explained to her I was not in a yellow box, and if I were, I would’ve been right to do so!! She stammered and stuttered when she realised she’d been caught out. She had one mission. To get me to accept whole or split liability over the phone. This lady proposed a 50/50 split liability resolution. I refused. I told her to put all her correspondence in writing. ALWAYS ASK FOR DETAILS IN WRITING AFTER SPEAKING TO ANY ORGANISATION ON THE PHONE. IF POSSIBLE DECLINE TO SPEAK, AND ASK FOR THE INFORMATION VIA EMAIL. The longer the paper trail the better. I got a letter back from this lady offering me 70/30 split in my favour. I still refused. She even threatened me with being saddled with court costs, but I don’t scare easily, especially when I know my rights, and know I am in the right. In her final response she stated I would have to wait for the police report before any progress could be made on who was to blame. Eventually my insurance with GoSkippy on my car lapsed; hence I had to get cover with another insurer. Would you believe that three days after taking cover with my new insurers I got a letter from them telling me that my previous insurers had changed the status of the accident on the CUE (Claims Underwriting Exchange) from ‘no fault’ to ‘my fault’. And they added a massive increase to the cost of my premiums. Of course, I complained. About a month after complaining the police sent over their report validating I was not at fault! I forwarded it to my current insurers . But this company is not like GoSkippy, they are not in it just for the money. They do exist to provide a service and they provided me with an email address to send all the evidence that proved I was not at fault for the accident. I sent them my no claims letter, police correspondence and the email from the dubious personal injury lady at GoSkippy. They immediately amended my policy and awarded me compensation. I have still not heard back from GoSkippy till date. I escalated the case to the Ombudsman but the last I heard is that they keep sending the Ombudsman information in the wrong format. It’s been 5 months (now October 2018) since the accident. I have since purchased a new car but the other sits in my driveway, unfit for driving due to the collision and a bleak reminder of the deliberate failure of GoSkippy to honour their side of a policy agreement I signed with them and paid for diligently over the course of a year. Avoid them. “Good at quotes”, Good at cheap prices” but If you pay for insurance and you don’t get insurance cover in the event of an accident that is not your fault- then -what are you paying for? Britain’s streets are becoming increasingly congested with crazy drivers, with bikers and cyclists eating up every last stretch of road. Every minute your chance of a no fault accident multiplies. AVOID GOSKIPPY. Watch this space for updates. Reviewed on: 14th October 2018

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

1
Please whatever you do do not use this insurance company. An amount was agreed through Vizion (The broker) Who told go Skippy the wrong amount, once I confirmed this with Vizion who admitted they were at fault they and I sent multiple emails to Go Skippy that were completely ignored. We are missing around £2000 and Go Skippy just pass you round different departments and wont actually confirm sending us the excess money. They are complete scammers. PLEASE AVOID Reviewed on: 27th January 2025

Not worth the cheaper price

1
Abysmal communication. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. Third party were going to cover the cost of my repairs and courtesy car. They had told their client he could not claim with his level of cover. He had third party, fire and theft so obviously they believed he was at fault. GoSkippy even sent me a letter confirming non-fault. The third party client then went to a solicitor and made a Personal Injury claim on my GoSkippy insurance. GoSkippy contacted me and then told the Third Party insurer that I was at fault which I understand they have to do but they did not inform me of this. I found this out from the third party - (Hastings Direct if anyone wants an insurance that will speak to them about their accident and keep them up to date on the process). They obviously have cancelled my repairs and the courtesy car they provided, which GoSkippy were not in a hurry at all to initiate despite this being the purpose of me spending nearly £2k on comprehensive insurance. I guess they decided it would be cheaper for them to say it was my fault than challenge the solicitor (especially as they could argue the damages and injury were as a result of the third party’s actions… because it was his fault). I know it's a bit of a long review but worth the read.

I received my 2024 van renewal which was £649.36 (last year price £574.04) and after checking over documents I noticed that I had only 1 yrs NCB showing on my renewal policy documents. I contacted Go Skippy helpline on 02/11/2024 to advise that I will have 3 yrs at end of policy, Call handler was not very pleasant to speak with but eventually agreed to change NCB to the 3 yrs. I asked what difference this would make to my premium, I was told that it made no difference, I found this a bit strange but agreed to renew with for another year, I was emailed showing amended 3 yrs NCB and total premium was £649.36 and was happy to proceed. On 04/11/2024 (2 days later) I received an email saying thank you for renewing with Go Skippy and noticed the total price was now £819.44, I spent a couple of hours trying to contact helpline but they didn’t answer. I phoned the next day on 05/11/2024, I again found the call handler to be aggressive, He explained that the price hike would have been caused with my 02/011/2024 phone call to amend my NCB from 1 yr to 3 yr; I was blown away with this statement to be honest. I told him that I had received an updated email after the first call and everything was the same albeit the amended NCB, I reminded him that I still have this email and he then became apologetic and asked to put me on hold so that he could look into this. The call handler then came back and said that he didn’t know why this could have happened but will now need to re-quote me for this year; Strangely enough we now have the total price of £819.44 for this year. By this time I have had enough and advised him that I can’t accept this updated quote and will not be renewing with them this year, He again apologized and said he was sorry this happened, I replied “and so you should be” I asked if he could cancel any payment request with my card holder as it was now showing that there was a pending transaction for £819.44 but unfortunately you cannot cancel a pending payment request with your bank. I was told that I will be given a refund but will have to wait 3-5 days for this. To sum everything up, if I hadn’t noticed the new total amount requested on the last email received then I would have been even more upset than what I am just now. Surely you don’t treat all your customers like this? or think that everyone is stupid, vulnerable or can be intimidated by your aggressive call handlers. Reviewed on: 5th November 2024

100% NEVER USING OR RECOMMENDING GOSKIPPY TO ANYONE

1
My daughter took Car insurance out with GoSkippy 22 days ago at a cost if £1500. She's had to change her car. GoSkippy quoted an ADDITIONAL £1600 for the new for the new car, £3100 in total. Obviously she's shopped around and found a policy with another company for a total of £1600 for the full year. GoSkippy are charging her £182.37. £75 to cancel the policy with the remaining. £107.37 being hidden charges! If not paid within 21 days they will pass onto a Debt Collection Agency. In addition she has had to pay £50 to change the policy from her private reg to its original reg in order for her to sell the car. BE WARNED Reviewed on: 31st October 2024

I recommend you DO NOT touch this company I cancelled my policy as my car was sold on, the cancellation was actually an extremely simple process with nothing I could see online suggesting hidden costs for cancelling - however this is where things took a turn for the worst - 16 days later they finally confirmed the policy was cancelled I then receive a letter to advise I owed £130 with no explanation as to what this charge was for. I then emailed to ask what the charge was for before I made the payment. As any normal person would in this situation This was at the start of September - 2 weeks later I am yet to hear back from them explaining what the charge is for. In the meantime, they sent this “charge” to a collections agency they work with called the ICB, as a scaremonger tactic to force me to pay - Unfortunately this worked as I was afraid this would affect my credit score. I have paid this fee now to which I have NO idea what its in relation too - and I am yet to receive an explanation for this fee. I am STILL waiting in Goskippy to actually email me back….
