Avoid this Bank

1
Being a member of M&S bank for anything other than plain routine banking, from bitter experience, can be a nightmare. I have been misinformed in the past on saving accounts, international and inter UK money transfers that has caused so much frustration, wasted time and money. Is generally a very poor bank with very poor service. And I have had enough of it. Reviewed on: 25th March 2017

Easy-Peasy

I've switched using the Current Account Switch Service, including two active Direct Debits, I will receive a £50 M&S gift card. But that’s not all. I will receive an extra £5 each calendar month as long as a minimum of £1,000 is paid into your current account and two Direct Debits remain active – for a period of 24 months following the switch. I will have £170 to spend in M&S on whatever I choose. Also, because I have a current account I can save up to £250 per mth for 12 mths at 5% interest and I can continue to open further accounts at the end of the 12 month period offering the same again. Not bad in these times of austerity. Reviewed on: 4th March 2017

Mobile app and online banking is very primitive

1
Mobile app only gives a balance, which makes it years behind every other bank.Online use needs a small keypad, even to log on and check a balance. Easy to lose the keypad and just very inconvenient. Seems parent bank HSBC has perhaps deliberately enforced this inferior part to protect their own bank accounts. Reviewed on: 17th February 2017

Great at the start, utter rubbish when you need help from them

1
I had my purse stolen from my handbag in my local town, trying to cancel my bank account and credit card with the bank was probably more stressful than the purse being stolen. I also had to cancel a RBS credit card, cancelled, done new card 4 days later.. M and s bank I'm still waiting for my new credit card, Marks and Spencer's should stick too what they are good at, selling clothes, when it comes to banking they can't keep up. Wish I had never banked with them. Reviewed on: 16th February 2017

I have been mislead and am now stuck with a device in didn't want!

1
I just got this bank account last week and am already Incrddible annoyed with them and wish I could undo this change! Firstly, I've been told I only needed the little digit pass initially and then never needed it. But I do need it every time I go online, this system is completely outdated and I'm really annoyed as I've been mislead by a member of staff. Secondly, I waited an hour to complain about not being able to sign on online with my new cards. It's all really user unfriendly and outdated. I regret signing up for this bank account completely and am going to try and undo this. Reviewed on: 16th February 2017

I like the fact they send me a text message as soon as I go overdrawn. Reviewed on: 12th February 2017

"new-fashioned Banking"

2
Marketed as new-fashion banking, but is far behind all the other banks in terms of technology. The mobile app only allows you to view balance and the previous 10 transactions, no options to go further back or make payments. The online banking requires you to carry around their little pin machine just to log-in which is less than convenient. Also be aware with the premium account as you the perks are sent out quarterly, so if you join mid-quarter you miss out on those perks, but you still have to pay for those months. Reviewed on: 19th January 2017

Poor online banking!

2
Having used Barclays for over 10 years and being annoyed by poor customer service and m&s offering cashback service as well as preferential rates on credit cards I took the plunge and moved over. My nearest M&S bank is about 50 miles so more than ever I need to rely upon a good banking app (I can't always get access to a laptop). I've used banking apps for both natwest and Barclays for about 8 years and apart from the odd transaction I've done the majority of banking this way, with little to no need to visit a bank. Unfortunately for a company which is predominantly online (due to the lack of physical banks), the service is poor. The website is easy enough to use. You are given a card reader and it feels secure. But it doesn't have a proper banking app. This for me is a massive let down. It has a balance checking app and you can check your last 5 transactions but that's it. You can't transfer money, you can't check for payments in and out. For me this is a game changer and I'm considering changing banks again. I need to be able to shift money around and pay things when I'm out and about. With m&s I can't do that. I don't have constant access to a laptop so rely on apps. I've tried telephone banking but after being on hold for nearly an hour and finding that the number I was given didn't even work ( you basically get stuck on hold). The rates on the overdraft are good, think I get charged if I go more than £100 into a £500 overdraft, so I don't have the big charges from some banks when I accidentally dip into my overdraft during the month. Joint current account

4
We have an M & S joint current account that we use for household expenditure, bills etc. They have been pretty easy to deal with, although I find the online baking system is not the most user friendly. But the free vouchers when signing up are very good! Reviewed on: 24th December 2016

Mis-informed customer service represents

1
I opened a new current account a month ago. My title was wrong so I changed it from Miss to Mrs, but was told I didn't need a new card. WRONG. My card suddenly stopped working, and when I rung I was advised I had been misinformed. So I got a new card but was told I could still use the same Pin. WRONG. I was blocked from my account 3 days before Christmas, waiting for a new Pin. Never Ever again! Reviewed on: 22nd December 2016
