Great concept, but I wont pay for it

I got one of the first Monese cards when they launched, keen to see what all the fuss was about. 'We're the future of banking' and all that. To begin with, it was pretty cool! The transaction view is really fresh looking compared to my Halifax current account, and importantly - useful. I imagine it would actually help me save money as I can see exactly where my money is being frittered away. BUT! Now you want to charge me £4.99 for what is a prepaid card, with no cashback (like Pockit) or anything else I could get on top of my free bank account? Just not gonna happen... We've since launched our Starter account (which doesn't charge an up-front monthly fee) to sit alongside our Plus account (which does), so our customers can choose based on the features they want. We did want to take the time to mention that the fee-based plan does actually include features like several free ATM cash withdrawals, very low currency exchange rates and a free contactless debit card. Refund to my Acct

I made a transfer to a monese Acct since Sunday and the money have been on pending on the monese Acct for no reason asking for unnecessary documentation that doesn't make sense. Monese is not what it says on the tin!

I have been using Monese almost from the outset (more than 8 month by now), as I love to support start-ups and disruptive businesses, but there comes a time when one must expect even start-ups to be working fully and to deliver a quality service – unfortunately this is not the case with Monese. At the beginning, I was willing to ignore teething issues, but these seem to be continuing and even get worse as time goes by. Over time I have experienced issues with limits relating to cash withdrawals, both in UK and in Germany, I have found out that I cannot make bank transfers to 3’d party countries, I cannot move funds from my PayPal account to my Monese account, their support takes up to 3 weeks to answer even messages marked URGENT, their support is only available between 08:00 and 17:00 UK time and only Monday to Friday, you can maximum have £ 40,000 in your account at any given time – and I can go on. On top of this, they have now started charging £ 5.00 per month for the account, an account which turns out to basically be a pre-paid VISA card! Truth be told, I do like the philosophy that they sell, being a UK bank account for everyone living in EU where they offer standard current account features, but I am afraid that I feel they not even live up to that! Monese, I am sorry, but I will now start to look for alternatives to you – you have disappointed me dramatically by "selling" a product which I feel you have not delivered! Basic but perfect

I opened an monese account because every bank refused a basic account (even though I had never been in debt but was something stopping me at the time) since then I have been offered full current accounts from other provider but will not open one because monese is nor only simple to use it provides everything I need at a very small cost compared to the high street banks. Never had problems and always great customer service. Reviewed on: 19th July 2016

Don't make transfers using Monese

They claim that outgoing payments are done 4 times a day and it's a lie. With any UK bank, transfers between UK accounts are near automatic. With Monese they claim to dispatch them 4 times a day, yet 2 days later it's still marked as pending! DO NOT rely on their payment/transfer system! This is good as a temporary service before you move on to an ACTUAL bank. Reviewed on: 13th May 2016

easy to use bank account

Love the app, love the contactless visa, can do all my same day fast money transfers using the app see what iv spent also for £4.95 a month its cheap compared to the likes of others charging £17.50 a month so cant complain just hope they start doing direct debits soon Reviewed on: 30th April 2016

Fail .

Their KYC process is bad . They will suspend your account if you get your salary in. Not a real bank as they advertise. No protection for your money. No direct debits. No standing orders. No faster payments.. Reviewed on: 11th March 2016

Features-wise, we've improved a lot since then! In terms of protecting your money - we actually guarantee the protection of 100% of our customers' funds.
