Review of the O2 Drive (inactive company), Car insurance (discontinued):

Worse Car Insurance company I have ever seen in 30 years of driving

1
O2 Drive came up as a reasonable car insurance comparison quote, and I picked them because of the 5-star Defaqto score. Little did I know that the Defaqto score is just for the options offered , NOT the quality or review score. O2 Drive is a new service set up by mobile company O2, on the cheap, to cash in on the lucrative car insurance market. So while the advertising seems good, after being with them for a year, I am utterly shocked at how poor the service was, and how downright unhelpful and arrogant the majority of online staff were, when you do actually need their help. For instance, I finally has a minor accident after 7 years no-claims, but when I reported it, I found I had accidentally mistyped a letter in my registration number, but the documents I had sent over actually had the correct details. When I had to lodge a claim, O2 Drive gleefully told me that they wouldn't accept it because I had made an error, and it wasn't their responsibility to check my other documents even if they had been requested, so rejected it. They told me I would have to contact their underwriter Ageas myself. Ageas were sympathetic at first, but then later came back and told me that O2 Drive had totally bluntly refused to accept my claim, so I had to pay for the massive insurance repairs to both cars myself. When I tried talking to O2 Drive again, the handler actually laughed and made fun of me, telling me I "should be grateful the police didn't come and arrest me for driving without insurance" after mistyping my number-plate. Giving the correct details in the rest of the documents doesn't count. I wasn't happy at the vervice, and did complain, but then O2 Drive just dismissed it. O2 Drive never bothered contacting me ever again, and I renewed car insurance with another company, then found O2 Drive had the nerve to automatically RENEW my car insurance with them without even telling me, and without my permission. A totally incompetent, "just 9-5", bunch of minimal-wage staff, who have no idea of customer service, and just don't care. Please avoid until they actually introduce even a little customer care. Just love to grab £20 non payment fees, by taking payment before due date !!

1
Horrible to deal with, they text you to call them, then keep you waiting around 20-30 minutes before you can ask why they sent you a text. They take payments before due dates then charge £20 if the payment won't go thru (I'm registered disabled so survive on pip, so £20 means a lot to me) renewal was £150 more than previous year nearly double what I'm now paying !! Horrible and couldn't care less attitude when you can get thru to them. Avoid at all costs Reviewed on: 5th April 2018

Great until you want to leave.. £60 cancellation fee

1
No problems with them but having to pay a £60 cancellation fee as I change my car and had a years free insurance, tried to justify it buy saying we don't charge to make amendments- not helpful to me when I haven't needed to make any amendments. Would have been 5 stars and recommended to all but left with a bitter taste. Reviewed on: 29th March 2018

Cheap and nasty

1
Cheapest quote but definitely no worth it. Online services are useless and the £60 cancellation fee seems steep when my insurance for the year was £190. Would rather pay more for a better company Reviewed on: 3rd March 2018

Horrible

1
Cheap price, really cheap at the begin. I was with another insurer for other two weeks before the start of my new policy with O2 Forgot to give a detail of a small incident I had a year ago with my old car (my fault obviously, but has been a genuine mistake due a lot going on) I send them the letter with all the information and apologize (This is just the first month, 7 days after paid the Black Box). They didn't bother to check before my details, during the 2 weeks of waiting. They just took the payment and then waited a half month before voided my policy without telling me nothing, so in that way, I've been classified as bad customer meanwhile they can enrich themselves with my money. Call them and they just refused to help me out even if I explained all and willing to do whatsoever to stay as a customer... They just thief. Do not use at all if you do not want to lose money and a clear record. I regret to change from Diamond to them. Reviewed on: 13th October 2017

Very strict

1
My daughter took o2 insurance as they offerd the cheapest quote with having a black box fitted. With in 3 months they cancelled her policy due to her going over the speed limit by 6 mph they are so strict and do not offer any leeway what so ever she lost £500 on what she payed. now she has had to take out other insurance and declaire that she has had insurance cancelled costing her 2k. Black box are cheap and safe but do cost you more if your not careful in the long run. Reviewed on: 30th July 2017

Cheap but nasty.

Go with O2 drive and they will pick you up on every little thing and then cancel your insurance leaving a black mark on your driving record for life. AVOID Reviewed on: 23rd July 2017

Scamming theifs

1
O2 drive is the worst car insurers I have ever dealt with. The people who work there have zero customer service skills, use lowsy "car technicians" (I use that term loosely as it wouldn't surprise me if they bought their qualification on eBay!) they break data protection acts and have no care or sympathy for their customers. AVOID USING THEM AT ALL COSTS!! Reviewed on: 19th May 2017

OK for a first quote, god help you if you need to make changes

Got this insurance through Compare the Market, these offered the lowest price so we went ahead. Four months later we decided to change our car, so we called O2 Drive for a quote to see how much the new car would cost us per month. £60 more per month on top of the £32 per month we were already paying... £92 per month for car insurance! I thought this was way too much so went onto Compare the Market again for a fresh quote £345 for the year! HUGE DIFFERENCE. So we go ahead with the new company and car and cancel the O2 Drive policy and get charged £60 cancellation fee. Extortionate prices and cancellation fee is a joke. Will never use this company again. BEWARE! Reviewed on: 24th April 2017
