Can beat other quotes by a mile!

5
We were getting really high car insurance renewal quotes, and tried Saga who beat them all hands down. We didn’t sign up straight away after the quote as we went on holiday, and when we got back the quotes were all even higher, even the Saga one. But when we phoned them they honoured their initial quote even though it had expired. It was great customer service. Reviewed on: 1st September 2019

Almost double the cost of the next nearest quote.

They say loyalty doesn’t pay, well that’s certainly my experience with Saga. I have been with them for 4 years and seen a steady increase in premiums on each annual renewal, but this year it was ridiculous. I have had no claims and this year the cost has jumped from £845 to a whopping £1284. I asked them to check if there had been an error with the underwriter who confirmed this was the new premium. I got competitive quotes from Direct Line, Privilage, John Lewis and NFU, and amazingly the highest quote was £721. I went with NFU as their excess was the lowest and because they’ve won the top spot in Auto express for 3 years at a cost of £654 including breakdown cover. I have a number of financial products with Saga, all of which I’m withdrawing due to this experience. Reviewed on: 18th August 2019

rip off Saga renewals

1
They get you on the books first year then increase premium on renewals. A joke, up by £90 on a £250 policy. When you call they waste 2 minutes holding you on telling you how they have all these great offers and the CEO wanting to know how well they have done. You then get someone who can't tell you why its gone up so much and speculates. Go to another issuer and its less than the £250 from the previous year, I guess they are hoping you are old enough and don't understand your options to stick with them and be ripped off. Utterly hopeless

I'm in the process of changing my car, it's actually the same car, just a newer version. Saga say they can't cover me for the new vehicle and they can't tell me why they can't cover me, so I'll have to cancel it (I only paid for a years cover a week ago) and arrange cover elsewhere, for which they're going to charge me £50. Utterly hopeless. Reviewed on: 2nd May 2019

Very high admin charges

1
I took out a car insurance policy in February. A couple of months later we decided that we needed a better car and so decided to trade our 2 old cars in and just have one newer model car. After ringing Saga up to cancel my new policy they charged me 75 pounds admin costs for the pleasure! 25 pounds for setting up the policy which I didn't know, and 50 pounds for cancellation. Thanks Saga insurance. Please read the small print on policy before the cooling off period. Reviewed on: 27th April 2019

Appalling in every way

Had an accident and at fault driver also with saga. No courtesy car allowed. Took 7 weeks to settle. More interested in my policy than dealing wit at fault policy. Communication and helpfulness atrocious. Reviewed on: 4th February 2019

Contemptible attitude to customer loyalty

1
A 35% increase in premium on renewal for no change in circumstances or vehicle. Operator declined to offer any explanation and adopted a like it or lump it attitude. I certainly won't be going back for any product from them. Reviewed on: 20th January 2019

UNFAIR ADMIN FEE

1
Really bad service I had to scrap my car due to mot failure with at least 6 months left of insurance which I had paid upfront. I telephoned Saga who said I could get a refund, then I received an email saying that their admin charge was almost half of the entire years fee! MOST UNFAIR. A manager eventually rang back to say that if I get another car in the next 10 months they would take £50 off if I insure with them. I am an OAP with a limited income and can't afford another car, THIS IS UNFAIR and brings this insurance companies reputation to a new low, what a disgrace. Reviewed on: 4th January 2019
