Santander's savings normally subpar, but not this time.

Santander's savings offerings have often been subpar in comparison to the wider market however, there was a period earlier in the year where Santander was market-leading and I managed to secure an account at this leading rate. Reviewed on: 27th January 2024

Good All- rounder!

Terrible

UK Bank interest rate at 5% and their savings rate on my account was about 0.5%. but the advertised rate was 2%. I call up to ask why I'm not getting the new higher rate and they tell me I have an older version of the same account and need to apply for the new version of the same account. I had 50k in the account so asked if they could just make the switch for me. Nope. Mortgage rates go up immediately but these pathetic savings rates take months to go up and then Santander provides obstacles to getting their own new savings rates. Well good bye Santander. You treated me like **** so I'm taking my money elsewhere. Reviewed on: 18th July 2023

Mixed feelings

Great savings rate when first set up, unfortunately did not keep up with interest rate hikes therefore switched to another bank. The website is awful, the app might be better. Reviewed on: 1st June 2023

Good app, difficult sign up

Difficult to open and manage account

I tried to open a saver account and TBH it was hard work, mainly because I had previously had an account with them 20 years ago. Obviously my address had changed since then and Santander needed all sorts of identity proof because of that. I couldn't access my account online as the verification process took so long. By the time I got access, other banks' interest rates had overtaken the Santander offer. Closing the account proved easier than opening it. Plus, the online site was not easy to use. I make a healthy interest on my investment and it’s easy access and can transfer to current account as and when necessary. Reviewed on: 11th March 2023

Slow & frustrating

As Santander's opening hours are limited it makes it very difficult to arrange an appointment. It also means that a lot of prior planning is involved to sort out issues. Very frustrating especially when working a 9-5 job as have to take time off to go to the bank. Reviewed on: 11th March 2023
