Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Stepchange relieved a massive amount of stress from my life. I had about 5 credit cards and 3 loans. Paying off all different amounts at different times of the month. With absolutely no sight of paying any of them off. I was to continue the way i was, i would be paying the credit cards off for the rest of my life. With stepchange, im to be debt free in 3 years. An Amazing Company

After continually maxing out, clearing & then again maxing out multiple credit cards & an overdraft & not seeing an end in sight, myself & my partner bit the bullet & sought advice via Stepchange. Was very nervous at first but Stepchange done all the heavy lifting, reviewing my finances to see what I could afford to pay then contacting the creditors. Without this help, I would probably still be in the same situation - making the minimum payments on cards & living in my overdraft. Stepchange have always been helpful & supportive, none more-so than with COVID happening where I was able to freeze my plan for at least 3 months. My plan has now finished & I'm so grateful for companies such as Stepchange!! Would definitely recommend anyone who thinks they're having financial difficult to make the first step of picking up the phone & contacting Stepchange. Reviewed on: 27th May 2025

Best Debt Management charity in the UK

The StepChange helped me communicate my financial situation to different lenders. They also help me build a budget and setup a Debt Management Plan to start paying off my debt in sustainable way. After retiring in 2018 I found it hard to manage on a much reduced, retirement income. My credit card debt quickly increased and for over 12 months I began to seriously struggle to maintain minimum payments. I found it hard to rest and sleep at night, and finally accepted that I needed help to gain control of my financial situation. I was uncomfortable and nervous about discussing my situation with a stranger but found the adviser to be both friendly and professional. I accepted I cannot afford to make spontaneous purchases, and will need to manage my available income towards future purchases. A manageable budget and repayment plan for my creditors was devised and I feel confident that I can adhere to this. Reviewed on: 27th May 2025

Experiencing StepChange has been life changing for me. From the very first call I felt the weight lifting. I could see a way through the debt, to a calmer, more controlled place and a happier life. Recognising your debt problem is the start, but calling StepChange is the wisest thing you’ll ever do. Confronting the problem with their help makes the seemingly impossible much more doable (and flexible) - and they do all of it for free! So be brave, pick up the phone, admit finally there’s a problem, and let this great organisation do for you what they have for so many of us and bring peace and certainty in place of all the stress and worry.
