Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

I went to Stepchange at an extremely difficult time...

I went to Stepchange at an extremely difficult time in my life and they literally saved me. The sympathetic and experienced advisers guided me through what could have been a very complicated process and are now helping me seek light at the end of a very long and dark tunnel. My only comment is that it takes an age to get through but that shows how many people are likewise benefitting from their guidance. Reviewed on: 27th May 2026
