Firstly the kind, empathic nature of the people that work for Stepchange is half of the work. They are non judgemental and understand how hard it is to even make that first call. I frequently recommend Stepchange to friends who find themselves in the position I did, with a good income but debts that made it impossible to survive. Stepchange staff were always friendly, non judgemental but honest. The rules are fair but strict enough to keep you on the path of debt repayment, I am 72 now and my circumstances have changed dramatically since I first dealt with them, my husband left me and I had to rent a bungalow and pay all my own bills but the flexibility and support has enabled me to do that and still keep up my repayments.
