A helping hand when you need it most

I, like many others, turned to Step Change out of desperation, and the cool, calm and friendly way they helped me with my problem was such a relief. I owe them a lot, helping when my lenders wouldn't. Being a charity, they obviously do not have an 'agenda' so you can trust them to give you the right, best advice availible, always. Thay are firm with their advice and recomendationa but in being so, you kbow that there is hope to get out from under the burden of debt. Reviewed on: 8th July 2020

A wonderful charity who helped me when I was lower than I had ever been.

Following a divorce and falling into financial difficulty this truly amazing charity and its staff carried me through a really emotional time. They have helped with my creditors who have also been understanding and helped me live my life. I don't have much but I am repaying what I owe, can cover the bills and put food on the table. I can't thank this organisation enough. They inspired me that much I am now helping work colleagues through difficult financial times using the advice they have given me to guide them. I can't thank you enough or the creditors who have been so understanding during this whole situation. The name speaks for itself and it has helped me up that step to change my life. Thank you. Made a difficult and desperate situation much easier.

I first contacted Step Change in 2013.They were beyond helpful and weren’t judgemental at all.I had a big change in my personal life in January of 2015 when once again I had several. additional dealings with them.They made my situation so much easier to cope with. Back me up

Empathetic, non judgemental

Everyone you talk to are so friendly they put you at ease straight away that no matter how big or small your debt is there’s ongoing support and a plan to help you through your crisis.. they immediately put you at ease like the weight of the world has been lifted. Helped get back my life

StepChange are like the reinforcements in a battle that’s being lost. They are a buffer zone between me & the sharks I mean creditors. They helped freeze interest charges , helped me work out a budget to stick to as well as a repayment plan. Without this I would have been drowned with interest charges. I owed £19,000 In 2012 which now is down to just £1.600 odd. I was raised the old school way which was to pay back what you owe. I’m almost there now not long to go & my credit score is at its max. Reassuring staff at the other end of the phone

Made me feel normal, like I wasn't a failure or a bad person for having debt. I had been juggling my finances for a number of years before a cancer diagnosis made things impossible. I couldn't believe how easy it was to get help and be put on a payment plan. I really wish I'd contacted them earlier. Light at the end of the tunnel

Being diagnosed with cancer and loosing your job are not the things you want to hear.. Macmillan put me in touch with Step change and I saw a reason to be positive, no more dreading the post or the phone calls ... I had step change at my back supporting me all the way fast forward a few years got a new job and am in remission from my breast cancer, still paying my debts but in a way that does not limit or scare me ....
