Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

Friendly helpful and sympathetic.

Friendly helpful and sympathetic. Without their help and advice I'd have committed suicide. As my life progresses they are always there to help and offer advice. Best of all, all my debtors are dealt with by Stepchange. Reviewed on: 21st May 2026

Stepchange the best thing I did was to contact them!

Since first contact with someone at Stepchange, i have had nothing but good, professional service. Everyone i have spoken to have put me at ease, never been judgmental, and have always gone out of their way to help. I feel the service is very valuable and they take the immense weight and pressure that you are feeling from you. They help you if you are struggling with the forms and offer support. I am so pleased that I took this route to help get my finances in order. I brought up two children on my own, have always worked full time, but felt I had nowhere to turn when it came down to my finances. For single parents especially, creditors only ever offer high interest payments, never offering 0% which would help significantly in clearing your debts. A Huge Weight Lifted

Amazing support — we were under unbelievable pressure because of our debts and struggling to sleep at night. We didn’t trust anyone with anything related to our finances until we found StepChange. They were the second company we approached for help, and from the very beginning they made us feel understood and supported. After going through all the interviews and assessments, they suggested several solutions. Unfortunately, we didn’t qualify for some of them, but the option we were able to use has now been in place for six years and has truly given us our life back. Excellent service

The website is easy to navigate and extremely user friendly. On the occasions that a telephone call was required I found the colleagues very helpful and knowledgeable. It was getting to the stage I was asking if my debt...

It was getting to the stage I was asking if my debt would be passed on in the event of my death. I was seriously thinking that this was my only way out (Suicide). The pressure was relentless with people chasing me… Then i discovered Stepchange and it changed my life. They were fantastic and put me on a plan that saved me from a terrible decision that would have affected everyone I knew. That was a few years ago now and I continue to make payments that reduces said debt and still allows me to sleep at night. I am forever in their debt and the guilt of getting in such a monetary position rests easier with me.
